SUMMARY

Called to the bar in 1999, Jonathan has developed a mixed prosecution and defence practice.

In the last twelve months Jonathan was briefed in fifty Crown Court trials last year including as leading junior counsel in a six week conspiracy to steal case concerning the theft and subsequent exporting of hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of plant equipment.  The cases recently concluded and resulted in a successful POCA application where over £500,000 of realisable assets was confiscated.

Having left his home city of Manchester Jonathan’s obtained an LL.B (Hons) from  University of London, Queen Mary and has resided in the capital since 1994.

CASES OF NOTE:

R v Pike, Kearns, Prodromou. 12 day prosecution in which concerning affray in which all defendants were convicted.

R v Seigher, Davis, Patrick and Castell.  Seven week case of four defendants charged with section 18 GBH, affray and racially aggravated ABH. The two complainants suffered stab wounds, fractures and bite marks.

R v Scally.  8 day prosecution of the son of the owner of Gillingham football club for section 18 grievous bodily harm.  The trial resulting in a conviction and was followed by an appeal against sentence where I remained instructed.

R v Yekinni. 6 day prosecution of tax evasion and false benefit claims with papers amounting to over 5,000 pages.  Resulted in a conviction, a custodial sentence and a large fine.

R v Bagdu & Huber. 5 day trial of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.  The case resulted from a lengthy surveillance operation and involved a number of P.I.I. applications.

R v King and Stone listed at the Central Criminal Court.  The Crown alleges that the defendants who are managing a pub serve drugs along with the alcohol.

R v  Kheelan where the defendant faces a charge of tax evasion involving over £100,000 of unpaid tax.

R v Coyle – the defendant from a travelling community attempts to remove a body from the morgue at Lewisham Hospital when he is interrupted by the deceased’s family.  This results in a knife fight moving along the hospital wings and serious injuries being inflicted.

 R v Beany, Mitchell and Wells who are charged with conspiracy to steal.  This case involves the theft of plant equipment and comes as a result of my successful prosecution in the case of R v Turner and others earlier this year which concerned the theft of over £500,000 worth of plant equipment.

R v Barney, Laurance and Alexander who challenge the right of the police to overtly record images of those who have committed no offence and store those images for future use.
