Areas of Specialisation

Dominic is a specialist defence practitioner often instructed as a "leading junior" on very high profile cases. His spectacular results for his clients have resulted in him being instructed by solicitors from all over the country.

He has extensive experience in Business Crime having defended in many cases involving complex fraud, insider dealing, mortgage and VAT fraud.

Dominic also specialises in Confiscation cases brought by the Assets Recovery Agency under the new legislation and was instructed to represent the main defendant in the case of Assets Recovery Agency v He - the first case to be conducted under this new legislation in the High Court.

His success at the Bar has been built on an ability to get to the heart of the matter, be it his evidence of a witness or a case and as a forceful and persuasive jury advocate.

Notable cases include:

R v Xing Cheng [2005] - led Gudrun Young for first defendant. One of largest and most expensive cases prosecuted in this country and its collapse following defence submissions widely reported.

R v Chandoo [2005] - led by John Charles Rees QC. Largest and most expensive case ever prosecuted - carousel fraud. Collapse involved serious allegations of misconduct against senior customs officials and lawyers and exposed dangerous Customs practices resulting in an ongoing inquiry and complete review and overhaul of carousel fraud investigation and prosecution. Involvement in this case allowed him an indepth and complete understanding of Customs procedure and investigation technique that very few counsel would be privy to. Customs waived Public Interest Immunity resulting in him learning hitherto secret and undisclosed important aspects of the investigative machine. Invaluable in defence of large drugs and fraud prosecutions and an advantage available to very few counsel that solicitors and clients would benefit immensely from.

R v Ronson (widely reported insider dealing)

R v Arango (baby shaking murder) The Attourney General eventually prevented a retrial and the issues in this case seminal in advancing medico legal thinking on the syndrome - resulted in a change in governmental policy re prosecuting cases dependent entirely on medical opinion.

R v Youseff (12 year old defendant charged with rape)

R v Cope (Nottingham gang murder)

Dominic speaks fluent Cantonese and conversational French.
