Rupert Gregory acted for the defendant in this well-publicised death by careless driving case. The maximum sentence the defendant could have received was five years imprisonment but the judge was persuaded to reduce it to 6 months. What is also interesting is that the judge granted leave to appeal against the sentence, which is virtually unheard of for a Crown Court judge to do for a sentence he has just passed!
